Description
It is used in two main ways: immunohistochemistry to confirm a melanoma diagnosis on a tissue biopsy, where it stains virtually 100% of melanomas positively; and as a serum test, where elevated levels can indicate the presence of metastatic disease and are used as a prognostic marker to monitor treatment effectiveness and predict recurrence
